Does Not Wisdom Call?

This meditation is based on a passage for May 28, 2010 in the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).

Text: Proverbs 8:1-21

Reflection and Question: The Book of Proverbs is a collection of sound wisdom for living a good life clearly directed to young men. The contrast between the harlot as the temptation to wickedness and the wise woman ready to give good advice is a theme throughout the book. This passage is an extended call from Wisdom for us to accept Her instruction which is “better than jewels,” an image used in Monday’s passage, as well. Wisdom assures us, “I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.” How do you love Wisdom and how do you seek Her?

Prayer: Wise Spirit, on the heights and at the crossroads You take Your stand. Your cry is to all who live. We open our ears to receive the words from Your mouth, ready for Your insight and strength. Lead us along Your paths of justice. Amen.
